I asked this question yesterday and got no answers so am re-posting it.

As I know next to nothing about computers can somebody help me with an annoying problem.
I use Google as my main search engine and am very happy with it, I also use Yahoo from time to time as a standby and also for an extra email address, I have used these two together for a long time now and never had any problems but in the last few days every few minutes a pop up appears saying ''Google detected a change in your search settings'' when I click on it it says Yahoo Search is trying to make itself my main search engine which I don't want then a pop up appears saying ''Click to stop this happening'' which I do but a few minutes later it starts all over again and is driving me crazy so how can I stop this happening. I am running Windows XP.

Assuming IE8 (think it's the same in 7), try to use the built-in "manage search engines" facility. Set Google as default (if not),and tick "prevent programs from suggesting changes...", then delete Yahoo. Click "find more" and reinsert Yahoo, making sure it is not selected as default.

If you have any Yahoo toolbar installed, I'd recommend uninstalling it first.
It'd help if broswers didn't try to be so blooming clever.
If one wants to use a search engine one is perfectly capable of typing in its address, or selecting it from the favourites, for oneself.
Default indeed. <sigh>
Depends on how you work, OG. I use Firefox, with various extensions that allow me to add virtually any search box as a provider, organise them and if I select a bit of text right-click and search on one of my engines. So if I see an actor I want to look up, it will open a new tab with an IMDb search already performed, or if I want to check an eBay price there will be a new tab with the listings etc etc.
Why do you need 2 search engines as Google will do all you need Yahoo search is now powered by Bing the Microsoft search engine but Google will always be the best
