Yes they should, but the BNP and the ant-fascists who counter them are at extremes of the political spectrum. Both attract thugs, and both seem to enjoy and believe that the skirmishes are good publicity and good recruiting sergeants for their cause.

I agree that all legitimate political parties should be allowed to meet and their meetings should be protected by law.
One of the criteria should be that the party's beliefs and the speeches at the meeting must be lawful.
So Marxists are probably ok, Islamic Jihad probably not, The Paedophile Party no, The Ku Klux Klan no and it has to be said, the spin-offs from The National Front routinely cross the line into illegality unless restrained by the courts.

Oldgit, I still can't get over the disappointment from yesterday's thread. I just find it hard to believe that you could not apologise even in the slightest for your racial comments yesterday. You didn't even have the guts to apologise to Onlineoap who has fought for this Country in the War, who fought for democracy and values of respect, fairness and equality, the issues that you have the nerve to raise even on this thread.

I can see no reason to apologise to the likes of you, or anyone else who do not in turn apologise to me for the barrage of insults that are targeted at me on numerous occasions.
You use the words democracy and values of respect, fairness and equality, you would not know the meaning of these words if they struck you in the face.
Democracy a state that one is free to speak out, even though some may disagree.
Values of respect, one cannot receive this unless one is prepared to respect others in return.
Fairness, be prepared to accept equal rights of debate, without issuing insults to those you don't agree with..
Equality, expect to be treated the same as you treats others.

The BNP chose the public street outside a Government Agency. The cost of Policing this stunt must have been considerable. It was inviting trouble, just to grab a few cheap headlines.

History as shown millions of people what racist comments have led to and I am so, so saddened to find such encouragement of prejudice on a public website.

There was a documentary on one of the sky channels awhile back that looked at slavery and I could barely look at the harrowing pictures of abusive scars inflicted by the 'masters' but one poignant part was a black man who said that even the family dog was treated with more respect than the black person was.

The British are the most tolerant nation in the world, but if we were to apologise for everything that some allow themselves to be offended about, we would spend all our time apologising.
A typical example is slavery, we are still expected to apologise for this almost 200 yeas after it was made illegal by our forefathers, in the whole of the British Empire.
Although slavery was implemented by almost every nation in the world, especially Africa, it seems it is left to the British to carry the full responsibility for the rest of time.
