Since installing the above in Nov 09, whenever I run norton, it never seems to even find any cookies or anything, each scan finds nothing. Even though a full scan can take approx 2 -3 hours sometimes it says it has scanned 677,801 or 1,072,361 files, why the great difference in the number of files? is it actually doing its job properly?

I agree that is is extremely slow. What have you got now? my colleague suggested one to use but I had problem after problem with it.
I am using Norton IP 2010 as well. it takes approx 30-35minutes to do a full sytem scan and regularly finds about 30-40 cookies and things which it removes. You do seem to have a very large number of files on your computer, many more than I do so I suppose your times are about right.
I also haven't noticed it slowing anything down.
Suggest you run it overnight
I'm like scotman and run Norton 2010 which does seem quicker than previous versions......apparently Chuck thinks Norton has improved with this version.
