wireless network

I have a wireless modem but when I turn on my laptop and go to choose network screen tells me no networks available. make sure wireless switch is on. what does this mean ? help !

My Dell has a 'wireless' icon on the F2 button - this is the same as a little switch but on the keyboard instead. Is there anyway you may have disabled the wireless router on the control panel?

on my laptop there is a little switch under the front edge and a light comes on when it's switched

its a packard bell laptop and i`ve searched high and low but cannot see any such switch anywhere !
mines a toshiba, its a very small switch. are you sure it's wireless enabled?
