Printer going offline

My printer is attached to the router by ethernet. My lappy talks to the router wirelessly and normally prints OK. Since I moved in here, I've noticed a problem. Our broadband slows up about every 2 days so we have to reboot the router. Everytime we do that, when you go to print, the lappy can find the printer but says the printer is offline. I now have about 26 versions of my printer because I have to reinstall it everytime we reboot the wretched router. Can anyone suggest a solution, please?

What model of printer is it? (the easy question)

and would you know if has a statically assigned IP address, or is it being given an IP address by the router (DCHP) (the harder question)

Hi Chuck - its an HP 6310 all in one.

As for the hard question - errrrrrr......

Let's put it like this. I plug it into the router and then print out the network settings and it appears to have an IP address when I do that. Then I ask the lappy to find it, which it does and they talk quite nicely until the router goes down. Does that help?
