My DVD recorder has started coming up with a message saying "SLEEP" and when I switch it on it says "WAKING UP" this has only happened over the last couple of weeks and I have no idea why as it never had this before. My other DVD recorder which I have in the bedroom appears to stick on playback when I have recorded on the hard drive, if it was happening on the disc drive I could clean it but I have no idea why. If I press fast forward for a split second it moves forward. Can I clean the hard drive without losing my recordings?

This is really two questions in one. As far as the first part is concerned you'll probably find the answer in the manual under something like Power Save. This can be turned on / off by selecting the correct button. It is possible that you accidentally hit this button when doing something else. It would help if you could post the make /model of your machine.
As far as the second part of your question is concerned - sorry, no experience! but again, post the make and model and it's likely that someone will be able to help.

Thanks MalcolmY
I'll have to try and find the manual for the two DVD's
If you don't have the manual you can go to the manufacturer's website and find your way through a sequence like Support - Products - Downloads - Manuals - Download User Manual. Different manufacturers have slightly different website setups but the above sequence will give you the idea. Alternatively, post the make and models in AB and we'll do the work for you!
