Querying an Access 97 Memo Field

I've inherited an Access 97 db at work. One of the fields in the main table contains error codes and descriptions, followed by a semi-colon.

I want to query the memo field to append each error into a different table. Then I can report on how many errors were made of each type...

There is no set length for each error description, but each one is seperated by that semi-colon.

Memo field example:
ERR01 - Description01; ERR07 - Description70; VDS32 - Description of VDS32;

Can anyone tell me how to buid this append query?
Thanks for any help.

Visual Basic would be the best way.

Basically you use the Split() function to separate the field contents into array variables and then write these values to the table in a loop.

Another way might be to export the field with a suitable delimiter and then reimport using the semicolon and hyphen as delimiters. It would be a kludge if made to work.
