How does my grandaughter get an email address on our computer? We have forgotten how to do it.

Most ISPs allow you to have several email addresses. The instructions for setting them up will be on your ISPs website. However, additional email addresses will normally still show your own ID. For example, if your user name is 'marysmith', your ISP might allow you to have email addresses like [email protected], [email protected], etc. So, using the services of your ISP, your granddaughter won't be able to have a truly independent address.

There are dozens (or probably hundreds) of websites where you can get a free email address for your granddaughter, but most of those email services only work via web access. (i.e. you can't use an email client, such as Outlook Express).

There are relatively few 'proper' email services (which can be used with an email client, as well as via the web). The most popular, by far, is Google's GMail service:

Some people don't like GMail, either because it scans all mail so that advertising material can be appended or simply because they'd rather have a more basic service.
