'Best' software for making an .mp3 compact disc

Would some knowledgeable person please advise which of the "free" and purchaseable software packages is the one for a non-expert to use when converting audio tracks to an mp3 compact disc?

Well Windows Media Player (free with Windows) will "rip" tracks OFF an audio CD and make them into mp3 files on your computer hard disk.

And any "burning" software (Nero, Roxio, even Windows Media Player) will burn mp3 files TO a compact disc.

mp3 files are just copied to a compact disk as "data" files so there is nothing special about burning mp3 files to compact disk.

Or do you want to burn mp3 files to a compact disk in "audio" format, so they can be played on a "normal" cd player?

If so then Windows Media player will do that as well (so will Nero, Roxio etc), you just need to burn using "audio" format rather than "data" format.

as VHG says, windows media player does a perfectly good job of ripping CD's to MP3

You don't need any extra software to then burn the MP3 files to CD, windows XP will burn CD's on it's own.
