Why does my windows firewall keep turning off

Every time I switch on my computer a warning message tells me that my windows (XP) firewall is off. I click the baloon to rectify, and then it comes on. Why is this happening? I have done a virus scan which did not detect any problems

there are lots of things it could be ...

but the xp firewall is better than nothing .... but only just

I pefer an all in one security suite (avira or kaspersky)

if you want freebies zone alarm works well
It seems some viruses to spyware infections . Scan your computer with malwarebyte : http://malwarebytes.org/mbam.php
