Hi guys!

Firstly, to the best of my knowledge (limited!), nothing has changed on my PC in the last few days, but I never got this fixed (?)

http://www.theanswerbank.co.uk/Technology/Comp uters/Question592205.html

...And now, for a couple of days I've been "Saving" pictures I want from the Net to "My Pictures" as I've always done - however, those & all of the other pics I've saved in the past are now inaccessible unless I use "Image preview" - simply clicking on them produces no response - "Open" & "Open With" are the same...

I realise I've probably mucked something up, but have no idea where to begin! :-((

I apologise for being a numpty, hope someone can offer a suggestion & thank you all for your time & attention! :-)

Right-click on one of the images and choose Open with
DO NOT select any of the applications that are shown, but select the last item "Choose Program"
In the list of items which is now displayed, click once on "Windows Picture and Fax Viewer" so that it is highlighted
No tick the box "Always use the selected program..."
Finally, click OK
The picture should now open correctly, and if it does, then all the others will as well.
"No tick the box" should of course be "Now tick the box"
Duuh!

Thank you for your answer, rojash - unfortunately, I haven't got "Windows Picture & Fax Viewer"!

I'm working (Hah!) with W2000 SP4 if that's any help?

If I don't answer straight away, please don't think I'm ignoring you all - stars & plaudits will be allocated! :-)
Windows and Fax viewer is the defualt for XP. I forget what it was for W2000, but you can just follow the instructions above, and, when you get to the Windows and Fax viewer bit try each of the applications which are listed, in turn until you find one that you're happy with.
The important bit is to get to the screen that has the "Always open.." checkbox on it, and check that box.

Cheers! I've got to go & get dins soon, but I'll try this as soon as I can & report back...

Many thanks! :-)
Just checked on a client's machine and theirs is set to "Imaging Previewer" which was a Kodak product that MS licensed and distributed with W2000

Thanks again rojash - I've got that & will check it out properly later - I'm still miffed that I can't figure out why the old system & icons for jpegs suddenly stopped working...

...I'll get back to you anon... :-)

rojash - with sincere apologies for not returning to this earlier!

The Kodak IP works, but it's extremely irritating, in that before opening a pic, it insists on reminding me that it "might result in a security risk" & am I sure I want to go ahead?!

Click "OK" & the pic is blown up to full-screen size, so I have to fiddle with the magnification just to be able to see it properly

Im wondering whether to re-install Windows & see if I cant get things working the way they used to? Bearing in mind that Im a numpty, is that worth considering? Easy or hard? Will all my files stay as they are, or would I have to move them first?

No hurry with this Im too depressed about this stupid machine to give it too much time! :-))
