Editing video footage

I am trying to learn about editing video footage on my computer and am looking for sources of advice to help me. Can anyone suggest any books, websites or courses which they have used which were fairly basic?

As a start point, you may need a good spec PC with lots of RAM and a fast processor (or, alternatively, a lot of patience) to do this. It seems that you can download instruction manuals in pdf format for most things through the p2p networks with increasing ease. Also, if you search for "video editing tutorial" online you should find lots of useful info
