How do I link my laptop to new Server?

I bought a new computer and the young man from the shop where I bought it came along and set it all up for me.
It's vista and I can't get on with it at all so I want to use my old laptop which is Windows XP but we changed server so it needs linking up to the new one which is Sky.
Please can someone tell me in simple terms how to do this. Many thanks.

Can I suggest that you do what I did ,buy a copy of Windows Vista for dummies it has enabled me to do the things i want to do and some, less than a tenner and I can learn at my own pace and then realise that it is not so different from XP.in some ways a lot better . Jim
