Do people think managers make rash, vindictive petty decisions just out of sheer spite????? why do some part-time workers, or come to that full time workers, live under the self-obsessed idea that their employer 1) can't manage without them and 2) Will change an entire rota (that took time to do) to accomodate their social/domestic needs. Get a grip, if you have a job do it or get out and let someone else have it. Trust me, in 12 months time, people will be glad to work any day of the week!!!

soz madmaggot but i read some tripe on here and it really gets me annoyed, i'm a hands on manager and work long hours, never wasting a minute and making sure everything goes right, one feeble excuse from staff can have a knock on effect that caused stress, disruption and loss of business, and then they whine that there is no overtime, and thats cos the wage budget has been wasted covering the shifts they didnl;t want to do!!!!!!! grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
It's the same where I work, some of us do, and some only do what suits them, and muggins here gets phoned up to do at short notice because the boss knows that I will do..
Tell me about it!! My OH was owner/manager of a small business for 25 years. Nuf sed.

you are probably tight matvel, at work the host store screened, interviewed and selected several Christmas temps, they all started end of October, there are hardly any left, they don;t want the work, feeble excuses over not wanting to cover late nights and weekends, yet at interview they agreed to do them.
Then i heard today that one girl has had her mum ring in to say she can't work christmas eve, boxing day or over new year, what the heck does she think Christmas Temp means???
I'll have the job dot, when do I start.

Rant away Dot. My best friend runs a shop and she has the most terrible trouble with her staff who keep trying to swap their hours around their own convenience with no thought whatsoever to the fact that the shop needs to be open to take money to pay the wages!!

Mind you, when she goes away, she leaves me in charge. She knows jolly well if I get any of the "I can't work on Thursday now" crap, she may well come back to no staff at all!!!

It is just mind numbingly pathetic to hear some of the garbage they come out with, it is all about attitude, they are all told at interview that they may only be doing a 4 hour shift, but without them the business can't function, and then they decide they have a family meal and so can't work that one 4 hour shift that week!!!!

And our cobbler is also a cordwainer

I would work Christmas Eve, Boxing Day, New Year the lot,it's because you actually get paid for doing it, some of the younger generation want 200 an hour for 2 hours work, I work for the minimum wage and glad to get it.
