When I press the volume - and + buttons on my keyboard I used to get a hatched progress indicator across the screen but this has disappeared although the volume does go up and down accordingly.
Any Ideas how I can recover the visual display as I found it quite useful?

you probably need to reinstall the drivers for the keyboard.

try and see if there is a make and model for the keyboard and goto the manufacturers website and download the drivers and run them.
