BT HomeHub (original version)
Any effective ideas, please, on how best to extend the wifi range of a BT HomeHub? I get 'very poor' to 'zero' reception between the hub in my downstairs study and my laptop in an upstairs bedroom. No scope to relocate either unfortunately.

1) Try changing the angle of the antenna on the router.
Since you want to use it upstairs, make the antenna parallel with the ceiling, not the walls.
If that doesn't work, and you can't move it to a more central location at all, then you could always get a wireless repeater. It's a little unit that just needs power, and takes in the weak signal and amplifies it.

you do have another couple of options though
a faulty router would have to be replaced with one of the new 802.11n versions (n has far better range and penetration) ..... that's if it was faulty - (wink)
you still have to get the repeater connected to the hub - which may not be easy
homeplug adapters will cost about the same - but run at least 3 times faster without all the drawbacks of wireless
