Web-based mail services are dependent upon the fonts made available by the service provider. There's nothing you can do to add to them.

However, web-based mail services are a bit of a joke anyway. They're always second best to using an e-mail client, such as Outlook, Outlook Express or Thunderbird. (The only real value of a web-based service is its availability when you're away from home).

Configure Outlook Express to receive IMAP (or POP3) mail. The instructions are here:

When sending mail, with Outlook Express, ensure that you've selected the HTML format. (Go to Format > Rich Text). Then you can choose from any of the fonts on your PC.

However, you should remember that the recipient won't see your chosen font unless:
(i) he/she is viewing the mail with a client (or web-based service) which displays HTML mail ; and
(ii) he/she has the same font on their computer.
If you choose a font that the recipient does not have, their PC will substitute a basic font, such as Arial.

This is an excellent little utility for quickly viewing all of the fonts on your PC:

I don't really understand

surely the objective of any e-mail client is ......
(stop me if I'm wrong here) to send e-mail????
...... or have I missed something?

I produce a lot of printable material .... and the rules on layout are pretty straight forward .... make sure people can read it....

When i train stuff that involves coursework ... the easiest way to spot the age of the person wot writted it (easier than counting the rings!) .... is to count the fonts .....

how many fonts does your mobile phone, iPod, 52"telly, microwave, etc etc use?

Web based e-mail is a godsend ... cheap cheerful .... versatile (you can use google as online storage as well as for mail)

and as bu says ... you can access it anywhere in the world ..... either from someone else's machine .... or with a mobile phone.
what else can you say that about?

When was the last time anyone said to you .... "what a wag .... he mailed me with wingdings .... ha ha ha .... sooooo funny"
(especially when the mail was to tell you your goldfish had died)

if that's what does it for you - you'll be laughing all day at this site

As far as I'm concerned the only "enhancement" I want in my e-mail is to find I've won a 1,000,000
