characters from character map on msn display name appearing as boxes

since restoring my computer i have noticed a lot of peopled display names having a long thin box on. whenever i try to put a special character for example ♫ it appears as a thin box. any suggestions on how to fix this?

I have the same problem.
I know that those characters need to be typed in a certain font in order to appear correctly. In this case, arial seems to work.
Unfortunately I haven't the slightest clue as to how I'd change my NAME'S default font to arial.
This has only become a problem for me since I reformatted from Windows Vista to Windows XP.
