1/3 off screen not working

as i have all ready stated that the right hand 1/3 of the screen of my compaq presario 1500 has stoped working a very smart mate told me the same happened to him the temp answer is press the screen were it splits and if it goes back to normal you have the answer i know this sounds a bit iffy i put a small bulldog cilp on the frame of the screen hay presto working and the screen still closes
