Hi

My uncle has just bought his first computer. he's 58 and never worked a computer or internet in his life. i've been trying to show him the basics and found a couple of tutorials for beginners on the bbc website.

Does anyone know of any websites that would be helpful to him? Its Vista he's got which I've never used so I can only explain so much

do you know what you've done..... go home, disconnect your phone, take the battery out of your mobile, shut down your computer.... you must be un-contactable from now on.... it'll be never ending!!! trust me.

the anything "for dummies" is a pretty good start, have a look at the range your self but they start from very basic and are easily the best books for first timers.

In our area there are free computer lessons especially for people like him with an outfit called Learn Direct. Might be worth him checking out at the local library as they may know.
Hahaha, I'm with the chicken up there ^^^

My father in law got himself a laptop last year at the grand age of 70odd, and God love him, the technology of it is beyond him. He is on the phone constantly to both Mr Boo and I with the simplest of questions that without having his PC infront of you, it's impossible to see what he's ballsed up this time.

To make matters worse, he's now joined a computer club, who duly show him how to do things which once again he forgets. So when he phones up asking again, a snippet of his class filters through and he'll say "but at class we did it this way.....".

I'm telling you carron, take it from me- emigrate. It's the only way to keep sane.
Hey Boo, (Kerry) is that you? Sounds very familiar to me........
Tell him to play solitaire until he figures out how to use the mouse. Seriously I have a few people I tried to help and you start of by saying things that are obvious to you but mean nothing to the person concerned. eg "just drag it into the windows explorer window", and they're lost ! outragious I'm with the chicken sha66er on this one!
He's only 58!!! I think you're all being really mean!!
Try helping out an 84yr old with a mobile phone- now that's a struggle!xx
