Your friend will be able to watch it if you finalise it on the machine you did the recording on
I assume from what you say you have a dvd burner...?
generally it should come with some brand of burning software.

if not something like

has free or bought versions

simply do a dvd to dvd copy (I'd use dvd+r - make sure you close it)

if the dvd player is reasonably new ... it should play ok
Ethel, you can't finalize a rewritable (RW) disc. The other types of discs are DVD-R and DVD+R (as chelsie mentioned), which can be finalized. Personally I find DVD+ are the least troublesome. In future I'd use these for recording from the TV if I were you.
...assuming your DVD recorder is capable of recording to both formats, that is.
My recorder finalises dvd rw

Then the disks can be rewritten without prior formatting.
I stand corrected. My DVD recorder is a Lite-On, it's a few years old now and according to the user guide, RW discs can only be erased but not finalized... I guess it must just be my machine.

I used DVD+RW to record from my TV like we used to with Videos so i don't finalise them.
I recorded from my tv with my hard disk recorder which you can record straght on disk or on to hard drive.
Then I was goig to borrow the DVD to a friend because they missed the program.

Cheers
