TV standby light keeps flashing

My Sony Trinitron TV KV-28FC60 is about 8 years old and is suddenly refusing to go into picture mode. We have sound for a few seconds then it switches itself off and the standby light then flashes intermittently. Is this major, as in new TV, or shall we pay to have someone look at it? When it happened a few months ago I fiddled around with the connections and leads and it started working again until today. Could it be overload? We have a cable box, DVD player, video-recorder and (wait for it) laser disc player all connected but they have been for years.

I assume you`ve looked in your instruction book under trouble shooting. Just a thought.

Read on another thread about Sony TVs having a fault diagnostic mode involving the flashing of the standby light. I'd Google something like 'flashing standby light sony tv' and see what the results say.
I think in the long term it's a trip to either the tv repair shop or Currys.
