Strange phenomenon

Can anyone explain this?:

Open Word. Type:

rand(100,1)

Press "Enter".

Note: It is a comma, not a full stop between the "100" and the "1".

Sorry, type:

=rand(100,1)

Nothing to explain. It's just a way of getting a load of text in Word, usually to test a printer.
