i need a usb cable to link a laptop to a computer. Is it a male to male one I need?

I don't think it is possible to link two computers directly through their USB ports. You can however do it with a crossover Ethernet cable.

You would be better to confirm this by asking your question in the Technology section.

I believe you can do a lot of damage to perhaps both computers using a simple m to m usb cable. You can however use the parallel ports (the ones you plug non usb printers into), but obviously need the port to port type of cable.
