self ejecting disc tray

just recently my disc tray on my compaq pressario pc keeps ejecting and then reinserting itself even without pressing the eject button.This happens several times before it finally stops.Does anyone know the cause of this and is there a self fix solution or will it have to go in for repair?

I doubt that it's a fault
nero and many other disc burning progs will "beg" for a disc if you don't get one in quick.

I also seem to remember an old "virus" that did the rounds called "coke can" ..... the tray came out ... a popup asked you to place your can in the "holder" ... and then pulled in the drawer spilling coke everywhere
(it used to get me every time!!!! ;-))

do you have one of the built in bundled burning progs that are often supplied with machines? - the type where you just drop a file into the icon and a coke can falls out ...!

Do you get any type of message or error?
..... try inserting said blank disc .... and see if anything happens

This often happens on older machines and is usually down to the drive itself not a virus. You can either grab the tray as it opens to prevent it from closing, or simply replace the drive they are not expensive.
