Typing over selected text.

When I select text and type over it, the original text no longer disappears as it used to. I have to always remember to use the delete button.
This has only started to happen recently, so obviously I have hit a key somewhere when I shouldn't have and knocked something out of sync. Can anyone tell me how to correct it please?

Try the Insert key (sometimes just Ins) on the top right hand side of the keyboard.
