my main pc wont fire up any more so i recently bought a laptop & a hard drive enclosure for my old pc hard drive .
I have taken out the hard drive from my old pc to access my music & photos & inserted it into my new hard drive enclosure then connected it to my new laptop thinking i can transfer all my music & photos to my new laptop . With the old hard drive now connected i can only access through my laptop programmes on my old hard drive but cannot acces my old documents folder which contains the info i mostly need (bloody computers , its never simple) . :-( Does anyone have an idea i could try before i go completely mad with frustration . please :-) .

What do you mean by "I can't access my old documents folder". Do you mean that you get an error message or an access denied message, or do you mean that you don't know how to?

If the latter, then do as follows:
Open Windows Explorer
Browse to you olf hard drive
locate the folder Documents and Settings
Locate the folder with the name that you used to use to log on to your old machine. In there are all your previous docs and pics etc.

Thanks rojash
I know how to explore the old hard drive when connected to my laptop but the files are unaccesible , it reads access denied ???????? .I have tried all ways around it trying to access them , even looked into folder share options but no luck . . It seems that the folders in my documents are hidden with no way into them . I was wondering if it is a security thing because it is being read by another computer and not the pc which created them ????
Any ideas would be welcome before i put a hammer to it to try to open it lol :-)
many thanks .
Kev .

Right-click the folder in question
Click Properties
Go to the security tab

Type the name that you logged in with and check the "Replace owner on all..." box
