Is there an equivalent organisation where you can opt out of receiving unsolicited e-mails similar to the Mail preference service?

No.

You can use email filters and so forth to try and limit the amount of spam you get.

If you choose an email address that does not contain a name that will reduce it enormously - something like Z2X1?.

And get yourself a disposable hotmail email address that you can use for unimportant websites.
Wouldn't it be great if you could, though? Also, somewhere where you could register as not wanting to receive any viruses or other malware :-)
