was wondering if anyone could help me find a decent laptop. I am about to start a new job and need it for that. i have a wireless connection at my boyfriends so it needs to have this. I have 400 to spend, i dont have much knowledge on memory and processor speed so any ideas would be appreciated.
many thanks

Something like this would do fine for you, with XP too:

Comes in just at your budget, if not a bit below.

Else, goto dell.com and find the cheapest wireless laptop they do.
Personally I'd stay away from nova (unless you have good fire insurance) I see lotd of them ... in fact they're paying most of my mortgage!

for 400 you are not going to get many options ....
built in - wifi is pretty standard
you need 1Gb of ram .... the rest is just luxuries
buy about 350 - use the rest to upgrade the ram.

go down to pc world ... have a look round .. ask a few questions ... have a play.

once you have an idea what you'd like ....
http://www.google.co.uk/products?hl=en&scoring =p&price1=350.00&q=laptop+computer&lnk=qsugt

When you decide ... talk to the seller ... don't just tick boxes and give your card.
tell them which machine ... ask what discoun't they'll offer on a ram upgrade

ACtheTROLL: I didn't realise that. My girlfriend has used them a few times and found them to be fine, with no issues. I'm told they use Sony parts too (unsure whether that's good or bad).

If you're following this, what issues do you find with them?
Should have got yourself down to Aldi`s first thing this mornin for the Medion one they had for sale, sods law by the time I turned up they`d all gone, grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
the aldi laptop seemed like a good deal ..my brother -in-law was off to get one this morning
have a look at this acer at ebuyer.co.uk, 2.2ghz processor, 1gb ram, wireless, dvd rw, 3d graphics and vista at 349.99: http://www.ebuyer.com/UK/product/126329
fo3nix

This is difficult .... not sure when we cross the line between advice and slander ...

however
lets say I have worked with 80+ machines over the last 2 years .... of those ... only 5 have never had a problem .... and 20 have had power problems which resulted in black smoke

the others have mainly been due to HDD and generic memory sticks + 7 mobos
OK. Thanks for the info.
