Why can I not remove certain programmes using the add/remove facility inside control panel-I seem to have picked up a little 'nasty '-which is causing problems-yet cannot be removed in the usual way-any advice? I use Windows 98.Thanks.

If it was installed using the windows installer you can remove it using this: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=htt
p://support.microsoft.com:80/support/kb/articles/Q238/4/13.ASP&NoWebContent=1
(download msicu.exe). If not you can try reinstalling it then uninstalling it. The last resort is to remove it from the registry: run regedit from the run command, do a registry backup (registry > export registry file) then search for the application (eg for gator edit > find > type in gator > find) and delete all the entries related to it. Note: this can be dangerous so use it as a last resort. Also try using this: http://www.registry-clean.com/
