I have a good program which inserts most foreign accents if I press Alt and enter a number, but it doesn't have this one, Does anyone know how I can insert a capital E umlaut into a Word document, please ?

Alt 0203, using numeric keypad or number lock on
The standard Windows Alt code for (Capital Letter E with Diaeresis) is 0203.

You can insert this in Word by using Insert → Symbol... with font set as (normal text) or use the two stage shortcut keys Ctrl+: followed by Shift+E.
If you frequently need to type foreign words, why not install the appropriate languages, then you can just switch using the language bar?

To do this (in XP):
Control panel
Regional and Language options
Languages
Details
Add (as many languages as you like)
Then click the Language Bar button select how you would like it to display.
You will need to experiment a little to work out how to get the accents, but once you know, it's a lot more convenient than having to know all the alt codes for all the potential letter/accent combinations.
For example, when typing in Greek, I just need to type a semicolon before a vowel to produce the accented version of the vowel.

Thanks, everyone. Alt0203 works a treat. I usually use only French, Spanish and Norwegian, and I have a chart I made stuck next to my PC. It's good to get help so quickly on this site.
