not everyone has word installed, does your recipitent?
Use a free product like PDF995 to convert the Word document to a PDF file and send that.

Most people can read PDF files with Adobe Reader, which is free.

must have because theya re asking me to send it as a word document
Question Author
and how do i get it?
I suspect it may be more to do with the recipient's settings than with what you are doing. Presumably you have tried sending it as an attachment and they are unable to open it. If it contains fancy graphics it might be worth removing them and trying again. Can they open attachments received with other emails? If the Word document is not too long you could try copying and pasting it into the main body of the email. Good luck.

ive tried copying and pasting but it wonr let me! and no fancy graphics either, so im lost
What exaclty happens when they try and open it? Which versions of Word do you both have?
Question Author
as its with a company i dont know what or if they have word but they email to tell me that it cannot be opened
It is possible that you have a later version of word than your recipient.

Open the document, click File>Save as

Then in the bottom box (Save as type) scroll down to the option that says "Word 97 - 2003" and save it as that.

Then try resending it

no still no good
Can they open other attachments ?

If not they may have a security setting in their e-mail programs which stops them opening any attachment.

Get them to turn that security setting off.

Try zipping the file up with a program like WINZIP and sending that, then get them to unzip it the other end.

This will stop the Word file becoming corrupt.
