I wish I knew, my cough goes in the day and comes on like clockwork at around 8pm!
Smokers cough always seem worse in the morning before getting up.
Because thats when you're tired, and your breathing becomes naturally depressed and more shallow when you're tired, meaning that you dont clear the secretions in your throat as effectively by the very action of 'good' breathing. Instead, the secretions build up more quickly, causing you to cough more.

So are you saying I should try to breathe more deeply? This just makes me cough more! But I will try, I promise.
