Hi there, im wondering if anybody can help me!

I have been trying to make backup copies of my DVD's and I have got some dvd decryption software and that works fine, I am able to copy to hard drive etc no probs, I have then been using Sonic Record Now! to make a 'exact copy' of the movie, now my problem is, some dvd's will work fine e.g anchorman which is a fairly new film, but Madagascar for example will not work (both made by dreamworks), the copying software (Sonic) runs for approx 15 mins and then fails saying the disc is dirty.

am i alone in not seeing the logic in this?!?anybody please help, I have been ripping my hair out for days over this one!!

I am sure you are using Dvd Decrypter as most of us do. Get Dvd Shrink. You decrypt it as usual, then open Dvd Shrink, select "open file" get the file from wherever it was decrypted to. If you want just the main movie, select reauthor and select the main movie. I dont remember exactly where it is but you will see two drop down menus and the top one will give you the option to burn with Dvd Decrypter. Then select the backup tab on the main page of Dvd Shrink. Or then again you may be using the wrong media type for the drive you are using. some drives are fussy that way. Try a different brand disc.
Could there be a corrupted file/segment amongst the files for the movie? I've had the same thing happen a couple of times - if you use Dvd shrink as peanut suggests, it will let you know when it hits a snag. Also make sure discs are spotlessly clean - they may play OK, but not necessarily copy - the slightest blemish can cause a file to be misread. Another thing, try going for a slower disc - i.e 8X instead of 16X, as well as a different brand (peanut again)

Sonic Recorder does not decrypt DVDs. Its just a CD and DATA copying tool for CD writers.

You need DVD Shrink in order to decrypt, compress and copy DVD's.

What peanut says is true - but if you only need an exact copy of your disk (ie you're not trying to remove regional coding, or change the format etc) then DVD shrink will do the lot on it's own.
