Links on this website

Is it just me, or do the links we receive from this website work for everyone else?? When I receive an e-mail telling me that I have an answer, and I click on the link, it says 'The page you requested cannot be found', and it redirects me to the Answerbank Homepage, where I then spend ages searching for my question. Shouldn't the link take us straight to the question and answer?? I have discussed this with the Editor, who was helpful and friendly, but he seemed to think the link was OK. I love the website, but this technicality is annoying!

It's always worked fine for me - it might be something to do with the way that your email provider renders the links in emails. For links to appear in emails you have to enable html in your emails : this is often disabled as a security precaution. Even if not disabled, some folks like hotmail seem to mess around with the links and introduce some javascript.
Most malicious emails rely on you having html enabled so this is where the "security precaution" comes from.

Do you use something like Outlook/Outlook Express or webmail?

I use yahoo. The link appears like this.

It is highlighted in blue, with the final l on the second line. The final l is not highlighted in blue, so I thought this might be the problem???

Oops, I went all hyperactive in my reply. However, the link is all highlighted, except for the final l of html. Is this the same for others?

If you move your mouse over the link without clicking on it, what do you see on the "status bar" of your browser at the bottom left (just above the Start button) ?

Is it the link as it should appear or some "javascript" bumph (or even the link as you've posted it just above with html appended to the end : "<br" ) ?

I see the link as it should appear, but with the final l of html missing.

I dunno why the "l" would be missing but that's why the link doesn't work.

One solution is to use gmail is the best webmail provider I've yet used - I can send you an invite to gmail if you want

Or you could try to figure out why you've got the problem in the first place and fix it (it's beyond me)

Thanks, Steve. I knew that was why it wasn't working, and I wrote to the Ed because I thought it was a mistake from the Answerbank. I thought they might be missing the l when they prepared and sent the link out, if you see what I mean. Anyway, I can't get any further with it and it's frustrating! Maybe someone else out there is having the same problem?? I really like Yahoo - been with them for years, and no probs. I still think it's a website problem.

I get the same. It is because the URL is split over two lines. ON mine, the final 'l' is on the second line. Try cutting and pasting it into the address bar of your browser and adding a final l if it is missing.
