Can't Open Paintshoppro Photox2

I have been using PSP PhotoX2 for about eight years without any problems. However when I tried to open the program last night it failed to respond. I attempted to uninstall it with a view to reinstalling. I tried this from Start ¦ Control Panel ¦ Programs ¦ Uninstall. I also tried to uninstall from the Installation Disc. In both cases the process just "hung".
In the past I have easily uninstalled and reinstalled, usually when upgrading my computer.
I have had my present PC for just over a year and PSP was working fine until last evening.
I am using Win7 and the latest version of Firefox (48.0.1)
Incicentally I have now found an old PSP 7 disc and this installed perfectly normally.
Any ideas please?
