I spend a lot of time correcting names in a family history database, but suddenly the final step, Saving the new information, freezes. The db owner has recommended I clear my computer cache and this has been done but it makes no difference. It seems to me it’s more likely be a failure of their system than my computer.
What do you think?

For Windows 10 you need to run a command prompt window via:- -RIGHT-Click 'Windows Start' icon and select 'Command Prompt (Admin)' Rest of instructions are then the same as previous post.

What database package are you using?

Its possible that your Disk file structure may be having some corruption problems. If so, you could perform a check and repair operation as follows:-

- If you are using windows 7, "Windows Start">"All Programs">"Accessories">RIGHT-Click on "Command Prompt" and select "Run As Administrator" and click "yes" to open a a Command prompt window
- Within the 'Command prompt' window using the keyboard type the following character text "Chkdsk /F" and then press the keyboard enter key.

- In response to the windows message "Y/N" question that appears on screen, enter "Y" and press the the enter key.

- Now restart the computer and when Windows reboots it will commence a check disk operation and automatically attempt to fix any disk errors it may find. Let it run which could take some time depending on what it finds.

- When the process is completed Windows will restart automatically where you can then test to see if the problem is fixed.
Sounds like whatever caused it, it didn't save. Always useful to save often, as you go.
