Trusteer Rapport.
I keep getting a pop-up saying that a new Google Chrome extension has been installed and giving me instructions how to display the icon.
My present browser is Firefox.
I've never heard of Trusteer Rapport. Should I just ignore the pop-up and how do I get rid of it all-together ?

Trusteer Rapport is security software that many financial institutions insist that you must have on your computer if you wish to use their internet banking facilities. Perhaps it was installed when you signed up to such a service? See if there's an entry under Start > All Programs > Trusteer Endpoint Protection. If there is then you've got Trusteer Rapport...

See if there's an entry under Start > All Programs > Trusteer Endpoint Protection. If there is then you've got Trusteer Rapport on your computer. If you've also got Chrome (even if you don't use it) it won't do any harm to accept the offer to install the extension (and it will get rid of that annoying pop-up). However if you'd prefer not click on an unknown pop-up, follow the instructions here instead:

If you've NOT got both Trusteer Rapport and Chrome it's possible that it's a false pop-up, generated by malware. Download, install and run the free version of Malwarebytes Anti-Malware to get rid of it (ensuring that, during installation, you deselect the pre-ticked option to take a free trial of the Premium version):

I have Rapport on more than one PC *and* Malware bytes *and* Avast AV *and* Spybot S&D and do not suffer any performance issues.
If you experienced slowdowns with it, that may have been because it was actively fighting some malware on your computer or, if your bank account was unscathed, despite you removing Rapport, then it is possible it was conflicting with your anti-virus or other pest scanning software. I would like to avoid whatever these products were, at the time and would ask you for a list, if I thought you'd entertain the request. (@LiK & methyl)

I've never used Avast & stopped using Spybot ages ago so can't comment on their pairing with Rapport.
I don't recall what security I had then but suspect it was MSE & Malwarebytes. IMO the closest thing to malware on my machine was the execrable Rapport itself. I do remember that removing it was a royal pain in the backside.
I'd rather risk using a chocolate fire-guard for protection than let it anywhere near a PC of mine again.

Morning all. I came across this thread after posting a related question earlier this morning. It was a security patch and I did get an update report from rapport afterwards. I have had no problem with Rapport since installing it when I switched to online banking. Norton always gave me grief they treated every other security service including Microsoft as a virus. Once un installed I had no further issues.
