JackDanielsU is correct that Wikipedia is an online encyclopedia. What makes it different from from similar sites, however, is its content is provided by people like you and me. So, if snail-racing (or whatever) happens to be your hobby and you find that Wikipedia hasn't got an entry for this subject, you're welcome to submit an entry for inclusion on the site. You might think that having 'Joe Bloggs' allowed to contribute information to an encyclopedia means that it can't be relied on for its accuracy but several computer magazines have checked it out and found that it often out-performs the more well-known sites. (After all, who knows more about snail-racing: an academic/journalist stuck in an office or the enthusiast who spends every spare moment of his life racing snails?). Wikipedia is an invaluable tool for finding out all sorts of information. (Like all web sites, you should try and check the information elsewhere but there's no need to be afraid of taking information from 'amateurs'. That, after all, is exactly what you're doing when you read this information on this web site!).
