I have had a 'refresh' done on my PC which appears to have taken off my Office 10. I don't have the code for it - is it gone for ever?

I have a copy of Office XP Professional - is it compatable with Windows 8?

Yes, Windows 8 supports Microsoft Office 2007 and later.
Where I work we were all really excited to get upgraded to Office 2010 this summer from 2003 :-)
Life must be extremely boring in your office, Prudie, if a Microsoft Office upgrade is enough to cause excitement ;-)

Thanks guys.

The problem is, my files created with Office 2010 will not open with Office XP, so it looks like I will have to purchase a new one.

If I buy Office 2010 off the web, will it access my files and documents created with my previous package which has been wiped?
Andy, do you know anyone with 2010 who could open your files and save them in a compatible version?

Possibly Zacs, but I'd rather jiust get back to where I was.

Just need to be sure a new package will access existing files for me before I buy one.

It should be fine.

However I've no idea why you're thinking of paying for any Microsoft Office product anyway. These are all free (and just as good):

All of those office suites should be able to open (and edit) documents created in Microsoft Office 10. I use OpenOffice, which has no problem handling files created in Microsoft programs. If you choose to use it though, I recommend changing the default 'Save' option. (By default, OpenOffice saves files in its own format. You can use 'Save As' to choose a Microsoft format but it's better to change the default setting so that simply using 'Save' does it automatically):

Thanks Bueno. I had a look at your recmendation, but I am such a traditionalist - probably my age - that I prefer docs to look like they have always looked.

I have been using PC's since they were available, and old habits die hard, but thanks very much for your kind advice.
