I keep getting a message saying ''outdated version of Java detected , Update now!''
When it happens it takes over the entire screen and I have to turn off and reboot to get rid of it. Is this a scam or is there a problem with Java?

I've had that too EDDIE for about the last 2 weeks on and off.
Me too. Java keeps crashing too and that is annoying. I know Java is important and has something to do with pictures/videos but that is the sum of my knowledge.
Same here! I did believe it to start with but as it went on it became very suspicious and I didn't get as far as the installation.
I've just uninstalled Java as I think it was causing me problems, I don't know what I need it for but if something legitimate pops up I'll reinstall then.
I seem to get it every hour or so. It's the official update notification. But if I click to install it it says I already have the latest version.
That's what mine was doing FF, then my screen went a bit funny, and words where casting a blurry like shadow. It had to go and it seems to be fine now.

Maybe it's a technical bug rather than something suspicious.
What p1sses me off is when I try to connect to an online sports stream and a popup tells me that I need to update my java. Whilst in the background I can see a faded out video of the event I want to watch. Yes it is scam, as when you download it you get a raft of malware, spyware and just general nasty stuff. If you want to update java do it via the official java website. Even when you have the latest version you will still get popups telling you your version is out of date.
That happened twice on my computer, and my antivirus program said that the update was unsafe and had been deleted. So, it's a scam.
It's a dodgy ad I've been trying to track down this morning. I'll let you know when I've got it!
I find the trouble with the Oracle site is that it always seems to have umpteen different Java downloads which might be the one you want.

Surprised a malware can so effectively mimic a real warning without one's AV spotting it early, though.
Ah, maybe it's ther same ad making some AB pages unloadable ?
I don't think mine was malware, all security is up to date and I ran a full malware scan which found zip. I think it's just a bug. An old schoolfriend of mine is a software engineer at Oracle, perhaps I'll ask her.
Some of you seem to be having ligitimate problems with the legitimate java updates - please don't confuse the two :)

(The Java updates are a pig to deal with anyway - so I do sympathise!)
is it like this just pops up and fills the bottom 1/3 rd of the page

click the top right and it drops down to a little box at the bottom of the page

click the top right of the box then it goes off

seems to come on when you visit a new site then at random

Mine's the official Java notification.
If I go into my Java it also tells me update are available but when i click to update it it checks and then says I have latest platform already
any firm that pays for their ads to be stuck on my screen lose a customer as i would rather pay more and go and buy it from another firm

I uninstalled Java last year when it had problems and never looked back. I sometimes get a notification that something wont work on a few web sites but not any of the important ones like banking etc..
Unless you visit certain sites that require you to have Java, it is better to un-install it from your Computer.

There are some On-line Games Sites that still insist on using Java, which has over the years been open to a number of viruses. Who knows, perhaps it now has a 'nastie' attached to it.

Hans.

HansUrbancka is that what is causing my ad problem please see links in my post above
We think we've got it. There has been a rash of bad ads recently and I'm making it my job to kill them off today.
