I would welcome any advise.
I am currently running Windows XP and I have McAfee Security subscription which will not support Windows Xp from April 2014.

Although I don't do any online banking I do sometimes make internet purchases. My PC is working fine and I don't want the expense of a new WIndows 8 PC. I would like to know if any other security is available or do I need to start thinking about a new PC.

Thaning You

Many thanks for your reply. Do you know the name of any other security package I could use as McAfee will not support after April

McAfee & a number of other AV progammes will be available to XP users for at least another two years.

Thank you for your reply Hans,
I currently run Windows Xp Service Pack2 and did not bother to update to Service Pack3 as I read somewhere that it would not be supported after 08/04/2014. It currently says that McAfee cannot update your software and when I ran Virtual Technician it reported Pending Engine out of date and the other message was Security 11.0.678 Problem CRT file missing.

I feel now is time to start looking to buy a new laptop - thanks for your help.
you can get free security software from Avast or AVG which does the job well. Also you can download malwarebytes for free and run it, say, once a week.

@MOLITTLE.....I agree with Methyl.

However, Do Not panic about about XP no longer being supported by Microsoft because there are numerous business organisations which are using XP and, as such, AV programmes will still be available to keep their Computers operational.

For the moment I suggest you forget about buying a new PC and, when your McAfee ceases to function, you quickly download Microsoft Security Essentials or some other free AV programme.

I would be prepared to bet that your Computer will cease to function before XP becomes completely useless.

Hans.
