My Avast demanded to be updated yesterday, so I did. Now when I plug my external hard drive in (a little Maxell portable) nothing comes up and I can't back things up. I assume these two events are connected as there was no trouble till today.

Is there any way to tell Avast to permit it? Or of restoring the earlier Avast? (Though I assume the latter would be risky.)

(Please don't advise installing MSE instead as I had the same trouble with it in the past; that's why I installed Avast in the first place.)

I use up-to-date Avast on W8.1 and don't have this problem. If you right-click the Avast icon in the task tray you'll find the 'Avast Shield Controls' where you can disable it for a period - see if the drive is recognised when Avast is disabled. I suspect it won't make a difference.

Hot and sunny again. We have been sailing past the monasteries of Mt Athos, minimum 500 metres away as we had females on board. But some of the monks came on board to sell souvenirs - icons, bracelets, monkish honey etc - so I don't know quite what the exclusion zone is all about
Question Author
Oh, and we sailed past a pod of dolphins too, gender uncertain.
Jno, they only send the strong willed ones.......

B.gger it ,the cooker doesn't fit .It won't go all the way back to the tiles.
There's a gap.Not a big gap but a gap nevertheless. I've washed it out and we've got to have the ovens on for an hour to burn off any stuff ,whatever stuff that is. It will be usable though until Picky can fill the gap ..lol.I've given up on cooking any dinner today and we are ordering a takeaway later.
I wish I was sailing round Greece somewhere .I might get a decent meal :)
Oh shaney that is so annoying, you just want to get going and start cooking don't you.
Jno the exclusion zone,is probably for the women's safety as those monks haven't seen a woman in ages!
We drove off to the other side of the island and we're amazed at how many of the posh hotels have closed, all abandoned. Then we found a little local bar and had a beer and got 2 minipizzas as a tapas, it was exciting, then a message from hija wanting to join us for lunch having already said she wouldn't. We went to my favourite restaurant only to find directions it was closed due to a fire in the kitchen! Hija suggested another place so we went there, it is right in the heart of the British invasion zone, but surprisingly the food wasn't too bad. I had prawn cocktail, and posh fish N chips. Not my usual fare but was ok. Then we tried a frozen yogurt place and I had mango flavour and we could top up with any amount of nuts and sweeties and syrups. It was ok but was glad when I finished it, hija had been a right pig and bunged everything going on hers and it was sickly, she left half of it.
Now you see the problem with this stupid tablet inserting words? Direction was never typed but it was inserted anyway! Grrrrr!
Good morning. Hija came home last night, so cat was banished to the outside where she yelled intermittently but she was ok. She's now dozing on my bed. Have to see eye specialist this afternoon, so hopefully he will do something about it.
Morning all.
Woofy I've just caught up the Ronnie sooty thing on youtube, aw bless him. I think that was before we knew about him. We had his sister when she was 18 months and I was 6 but think Ronnie came later as he says I influenced his love of music so I had to have been a teenager. All I can remember is him grinding his teeth in his sleep so he must have slept in my room!

Sitting in the sun but there isn't any really, just very high cloud and there are t storm alerts for tonight.

Oh dear, while I've been writing this OH has just been stung on the toe by a wasp, how unpleasant, has gone in search of some a Neti biotic ointment
Question Author
Good grief, ANTIbiotic
Oh dear jno sorry about the wasp I hate the little b.ggers haha had to laufh out loud when I read neti biotics. I was so prpud!!
Hello all
Netibiotics ...haha ,brilliant. Cloudy here but warm.
I don't like wasps .We used to get them at the bakers. I became very adept at catching them in mid air with the serving tongs.
Mr S is very unhappy with the election results in his country and has spent most of the morning chuntering on the phone about it.My in- laws would be turning in their graves if they knew these dreadful people were sitting in the parliament again.
Otherwise nothing doing .Just done ironing for my brother. He's taking me to Lowestoft tomorrow to the big Morrisons and Lidl, which is very exciting:)
Weve had an inordinate number of wasps nests this year.
I agree shaney who are these people voting in these scary people? The worlds gone mad. Brexit, Trump now this its awful.
Eye doctor cleaned the tear duct anyway but said it wasn't blocked, he says it's the nose, so I'm giving up. I have some soothing eyedrops or will have when I collect them tomorrow. He said nothing to do with the eye! Mr N started his winter work today, he's been knocking out a bathroom, so I had to feed him although not much time with the hospital.
Good evening all...you've all been busy again. Shame about the cooker shaney, nothing ever goes to plan, especially in kitchens, mine's small and a nightmare. I've got to get busy decluttering. Went shopping with my sister on Friday and I've now got a shiny new cauldron and a doormat that I'm saving for best :)

Grey and damp day after a pleasant weekend. It wasn't the heatwave some were saying it would be but nice enough to be outside.
Looking forward to watching Liar, I think I'll get my wincy and hairnet on before it starts. Keep taking the netibiotics, they're obviously the new wonder drug. Will they make me look 17 again?
They will Robi if you pay me enough!!

Huge lightning storm going on across he gulf here and yet I can't hear any thunder and there's no rain. It all feels very strange.
Jno we had similar this year over Southampton. The sky was lit up like the blitz but no thunder or rain.
Nice man from the tree company visited today. He has been here twice before, once as a skinny apprentice and then again as part of the work team. Now he comes out and does quotes and is as big as a tree himself. They aren't the cheapest around here but do a very good job and are lovely to have around, very cheerful and good with the dogs. I mentioned this today and he said they actually match the teams t the client so if there are dogs in the house they send a dog loving team!
Good morning folks. That's good woofy to have a dog loving team. That is one thing that drives Mr N mad when he's working is dogs, everyone thinks their dog is special and nice and they may well, be but he doesn't want them jumping up and sniffing all the fime when he's working.
Jno that's a electrical storm we get them often must be something to do with this area. They are great to watch!
I agree Neti....mine like to help but its really not helpful....I keep them out of the way while the actual work is going on so the men can leave gates open and put their saws and so on down without worrying. It is helpful though that visiting workmen understand the need for things like wee breaks.
