Does anyone know where I can buy a rope clothesline in the UK. Don't fancy plastic and have checked Google - not very helpful.

Many thanks

At risk of sounding stupid, can't you just go to a hardware store and buy some rope?  Sorry if that's a spectacularly dumb idea! *blushes*

I haven't seen rope washing lines on sale for donkeys years.

Also, have you considered that a rope one would get dirty very quickly. At least with a plastic one, you can easily wipe it down before hanging out your washing!

I'll go to bed now!

Thank you for your replies.    Yes, maybe plastic is best - I am living in the past.   Still yearn for Yardley's face powder and lifebuoy toilet soap.    Our little hardware shops have disappeared - only the big Do-It-Yourself stores where there is no-one to ask for help so I thought it best to ask on Answerbank.   Good-night everyone.

Yes - those were the days janoel.

I remember going into our local hardware shop with Mum as a child & smelling the paraffin, which was sold & poured into your own bottles, from a big drum with a tap on it! You could buy just about anything in there. It was always dark inside, as the things hanging from the ceiling would shut out the light from the light bulbs. Happy days!

Funny how smells evoke memories.   I remember a shop called "United Dairies" - walls seemed to be lined with tiles,  and I can almost conjure up the smell of cream, butter, milk, eggs etc.    No wonder I have always loved dairy foods!
