Got a new build involving 2*1TB conventional drives and a 320Gig SSD for the OS (Win 8 Pro x64).
Last time I did this (on a Windows 7 machine) I found a handy website with a check list for the settings that need changing. Any pointers would be useful and save me some time (we're behind schedule on this and I need to get the bulk of the work done tomorrow)
Are there any differences with W8 compared to W7?

Your help, as always, is very much appreciated.

As an aside, I'm thinking of putting an SSD in my machine but I'll keep W7.
What was the website you got the settings from?

Cannot help you with your question as I know very little about W8, but I was thinking it might be easier to fit the SSD first and install W8 to it and then make sure you've picked up any windows updates first then add the 2 x 1TB drives later. (ie, fitted but not connected yet as far as power supply and SATA cables)

I can't remember where I found the site which, in part, lead to the question :0)
The initial install should be easy, it's the system settings; so that the SSD isn't written to, too often.
I can move the Page File settings but there were several others.

OK thanks.

These forums has few questions/answers about SSD's that might help you, although I didn't see anything specific about W8

Brilliant! Thank you.
There are some very useful links on there.
If I find the one I used last time, I'll post it up here.
I bought an SSD ages ago but still not got around to installing it to replace the standard hard drive. Got put off by references to needing to reallign the SSD since it requires 64 not 63 blocks of data per partition. Got cold feet cloning the existing after reading that.

Well, bit of an update.
The motherboard appears to be faulty, another one arrived today and it boots into the BIOS screen but no further. I left it for the night and will continue tomorrow.
Looks like the SSD will be the easy bit :(

To finish the story...
We eventually got the machine up and running (two motherboards and one processor returned to the supplier but that's another post ion itself)
Windows 8 is quite intuitive with SSDs and the Samsung came with a configuration CD which allows you to alter most of the settings from one place.
The only two things left to change were the Page File location and the User Profiles, both put on the conventional drive.
It now runs like poo off a shiny shovel.
