Microsoft security essentials.

Microsoft Security Essentials. I wouldn't ever use AVG again as it increases PC boot up time significantly, it also affects webpage loading times.

Thanks :-) I'll try the Microsoft Security Essentials !
This question comes up remarkably often!

AVG Free Edition used to be the most popular anti-virus program among ABers but several people (including myself) have found that the most recent versions have slowed their computers to a crawl. Avast! Free now seems to have taken the lead here:

(NB: If downloading AVG, Avast!, Avira or any similar product, take care to ensure that you follow the links to the genuinely free product. The websites usually try to get you to click on a 'trial' version of their full security suite, rather than on the free version).

However many people (including AB's resident computer guru, ChuckFickens) now swear by Microsoft Security Essentials:

Chuck has just proved that he can answer faster (or, at least, more concisely) than me!
;-)
Avast Free gets my vote.
...but watch out for the box to untick unless you want Chrome as well!
I haven't noticed it slowing down my computer.... :|
I agree with 4candles, used FREE avast for over 12 years with never a problem.
FREE anti-virus program list:
AVG FREE edition
Avast Free edition
Anvi Smart Defender
Microsoft Security Essential.
The only one to keep clean windows is MSE.

I suggeat Norton 360 Media URL: http://youtu.be/x_0jgSBk-v4
Description:
Why pay for 'Anti Virus' when it's available for free and is equally as good as purchased programmes.?

Ron.
I have used nearly every single one. None of them is perfect as it often depends on what knowledge user has, I mean how aware is of threats.

If I had to recommend it, I would suggest Norton 360, undoubtely!
this website explains this info in more detail, so please check this blog:
