Yes.

Don't

They are not a suitable replacement for a laptop IMO, if you can have both the ipad will have it's uses, but there will always be things that are far easier to do with a proper laptop.

Do you know , Chuck .......I knew you were going to say that.
Pros - lovely, shiney gadget

Cons - doesn't keep your lap warm in winter

There are other laptops in the house if I need to use one but I was thinking that an ipad would be great for surfing the net whilst on the move.
Is the 4g a better option than just the wi-fi ?
I don't know what sort I've got - it is one of the new ones with the camera in. I don't plan to use it outside of the house so I expect it is just a wi-fi one. The picture quality is brilliant although I can't see much difference between this new one and my old one (although I expect I just don't know how to use it properly). If you get one be prepared to find that everyone else in your house will want to use it too (the kids are not allowed to touch the new one and have been 'gifted' the old one).
They are great play things if you have another lap top or pc for more serious work. I have the iPad 2 with wifi and 3g and took it on holiday it was gtreat for surfing the net keeping up with AB. Facebook emails. Is a great e reader but now I am home I'm back to lap top for mst things.

I agree with the first 2 respondants. If you are used to a proper PC or laptop, the ipad will be a novelty for a few days, and then it will start to annoy you.

Its the lack of a proper browser that gets me. Internet Explorer may have its faults but it does the complete job, all on one page. An ipad is OK if all you intend to do is check your emails and look at photos but I don't think its a substitute for a real computer.

Also they are so expensive ! You can easily get a laptop for much less that Apple charge. A month ago I bought a small "notebook" in Comet for £249.
its an ACER Aspire 722. Its has a 10 inch screen, Dual-core processor, 2GB of memory, and a 320 hard disc. Its almost as good as my desk top but takes up much less roon.

The battery life is about hours.

Compare that with an ipad !
