When McAfee does a regular scan on my PC it reaches a point where it spends upwards of 30 seconds on files that start Scanning: C\...\$R8SZE9t.ipa or similar.

Does anyone know what kind of files these are likely to be?

Given that the end of the file name starts with a $ sign, this indicates a hidden system file, and your .ipa suffix indicates the folowing

The fact that your PC is scanning this file for upwards of 30 secs indicates, that you like your iTunes, don't worry, but it seems excessive.

Thanks Nibble for the enlightenment.

I clicked on the Wiki link and it does seem to have coincided with the arrival of my iPad about 9 months ago.
