How can I tell which version of Internet Explorer I am connecting to on my laptop and is the latest version 9?

It's the same on pretty much every single piece of software...

Help menu > about [whatever software]

Open up the 'Help' drop-down from the top menu bar, then click on the 'About option. That should give you info on version etc.
