I'm no expert but i would use 'Restore' and set your computer back to before this happened say yesterday morning or whatever.

If there's a virus and it won't let you, open up in 'safe mode' and do it there.
You seem to have a malware attack. Anti virus software may not pick this up.

If you can download malwarebytes and install it, update it, then run it.

I now have a message that says " the application has failed to start because it's side by side configuration is incorrect. Please see the application event log or use the command line sxstrace.exe tool for more detail"
I dint know what's going on!
I must admit I had never heard of "Side by Side errors" or sxstrace.exe before

But I have done a search on the web and it does seem "Side by Side Configuration errors" are a Windows problem, and sxstrace.exe is a Windows diagnostic tool.

(This assumes the messages you are getting are genuine and not part of the scam, and that the sxstrace you are being asked to run is also genuine and not some sort of virus).

I would still try and download malwarebytes and install and run it.

Also Spybot search and Destroy

http://www.safer-networking.org/en/index.html

Maybe also download and run ccleaner.

If you can run all of these it may be able to find if you have any malware or spyware installed.
btw Here is one Microsoft web site where they talk about Side by Side Configuration errors

I am not suggesting you run sxstrace or try and solve the "Side by Side" problem.

Your first priority is to see if you have any malware or spyware on your PC.

5. Double-click on the fix.reg file to run it. Click "Yes" for Registry Editor prompt window. Then click OK.
6. Download free anti-malware software from the list below and run a full system scan.
